Caring for Solid Wood Furniture & Cabinets

Custom solid wood pieces last when everyday habits protect the finish. Care varies by finish — when you are unsure, ask Terry before trying a new product or repair.

Everyday habits

• Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
• For light cleaning, use a soft cloth that is only slightly damp, then dry promptly.
• Wipe spills as soon as you notice them — standing moisture is the enemy of most finishes.
• Use coasters, placemats, and trivets on dining and work surfaces.
• Avoid abrasive pads, harsh household chemicals, and saturating wood with water.
• Test any unfamiliar cleaner in an inconspicuous spot first.

Heat, sunlight & seasons

Protect surfaces from hot cookware and direct, prolonged sunlight that can cause uneven fading. Solid wood can move slightly with seasonal humidity — that is normal. Extreme dryness or dampness is harder on joints and finishes.

Cabinets & vanities

Wipe cabinet doors and vanity surfaces with the same gentle approach. Avoid soaking hinge areas. For bathroom humidity, good ventilation helps finishes last.
