Woods that I build with are as follows. Pine, Maple, Oak, Ash, Poplar, Wormy Maple, Cherry, Walnut also available in Live Edge .
Pine
Soft wood, less expensive with knots and character, nice in smooth or rough sawn finish.
Maple
Hard wood, mellow grain and character, nice in smooth or rough sawn finish.
Oak
Hard wood, red in natural colour very busy grain, nice in smooth finish.
Poplar
Medium wood, mellow grain great for paint or stain finishes.
Wormy Maple
Hard wood, lots of character white/brown natural colour with tiny holes, nice in smooth or rough sawn finish.
Cherry
Hard wood, beautiful red natural colour easy flowing grain, nice in smooth finish.
Ash
Hard wood, white/brown natural colour similar grain to oak, nice in smooth finish.
Walnut
Hard wood, dark brown natural colour, nice in smooth finish.
Live Edge
Outside edge of the tree with or without bark, no two edges are ever the same as unique as the trees they grow from.
